TREASONS

“Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
— the U.S. Constitution

Treasons is an artist’s book consisting of progressively created analog collages that were scanned one by one. Each spread subtracts elements, revealing hidden layers of images and texts, and through this, evolving meaning that is open to interpretation.

Opening spreads show an overwhelming grid of color blocks, words and images of faces that depict the fraught times in which we live. Eventually the grid dissolves, revealing a dark, chaotic and sinister spread. But by suggesting the tool used in the French Revolution to good effect for traitors, a solution may be at hand (or at neck). Consequent pages peel back layers of reasons: allusions to economics, liberty, education, technology, the environment. Eventually, elements disappear from the book's pages and the compositions become more stark. At the end, only humor remains.

Treasons cites reasons...

The book is 9 x 12" and has 48 full-color pages. The edition of 100 was printed onto premuim 80# text paper by Smart Set of Minneapolis.

Treasons is available bundled with its companion book Quadriennia in a handmade oak box (see pictures at bottom of web page).
