QUADRIENNIA The word “Quadriennia” (quad-ray-nee-ah) is plural for quadriennium, a period of four years, such as how often the Olympics or the US presidential elections are held. Quadriennia is an artist’s book consisting of progressively created analog collages that were scanned one by one. Each spread adds new elements – nothing is taken away or cropped out. Images, texts and patterns accumulate, interact with each other, layer, obstruct, but also allow snippets to reveal through composition and translucency. The collages begin with an upbeat natural landscape that becomes populated with people. The vibe is largely utopian yet quirky. Eventually a grid of hexagons overwhelms the scene – a sort of technocratic layering that suggests the dehumanizing quality of our oncoming artificial intelligence future. The linear narrative takes a socio-political turn with references to current hegemonic forces. Now dystopian with a degraded environment and probing text passages, humorous juxtapositions lighten the message. A positive ending spread brings the story back to a hopeful conclusion. Quadriennia asks questions... The book is 9 x 12" and has 48 full-color pages. The edition of 100 was printed onto premuim 80# text paper by Smart Set of Minneapolis. Quadrienni is available bundled with its companion book Treasons in a handmade oak box (see pictures at bottom of web page). ___ DISSEMINATION Volumes: Audacious Book Cooperative at Kickernick Gallery, Minneapolis.
