MY HOUSE Because I spend a fair amount of time on house renovation projects (all involving design!), I thought I’d share a few. What emerges? The use of grids, but not rigid grids... they are loose and bumpy, guides not rules. I like to work in, and mix, various media: paint, paper, tape, wood, tile, stone. And light. The house is in University Grove, a community of 103 homes all built on University of Minnesota land (that residents lease for $100 per year). There are many striking mid-century structures; mine was designed by Winston and Elizabeth Close and built in 1955. For the observant eye: yes, that’s a wire cable and padlock holding the patio chairs to the tile table (which is very heavy). Theft-proof! ___ |
